Dental composite

Composite and laminate

Dental composite:

Composite is one of the ways to whiten teeth that is very popular today. In this method, composites that are made of polymer are used. In the composite laminating method, the tooth is cut slightly and in some cases, laminating may be done without cutting the tooth. This method is also cheaper than ceramic laminate. Today, in order to have the best result in terms of quality and durability of composite laminate, different types of composite have entered the market. Here are some examples of types of dental composites:

Types of dental composites:

Coarse-grained or macrophilic composite:

The first type of dental composite to enter the market is macrophilic composite. This type of composite contains particles from 10 micrometers to 50 micrometers, which is much larger than today’s materials. The size of these particles has a good effect on the durability and high strength of the composite, but on the other hand, it makes it difficult to polish or clean the restoration surface.

Fine-grained or microfiber composite:

In the 1970s, a new generation of dental composites entered the dental market containing particles smaller than 100 nanometers. These composites are less durable than macrophiles, which are large particles. The good thing about this type of composite is its ease of polishing and smooth repair surface. As mentioned, microfilaments are weak and can not withstand the pressures on the teeth (especially the back teeth).

Hybrids, micro-hybrids and nano-hybrids:

This type of composite is actually located between a microfiber composite and a macrophilic composite. Hybrid composite particles are between 10 and 50 micrometers and also particles as large as 40 nanometers. Micro-hybrid and nano-hybrid composites are both in the hybrid composite group and have particles ranging from less than 100 nm to more than 1 μm. These materials have a high filler that makes them resistant to abrasion and therefore have high strength. Disadvantages of hybrid composites include their reduced beauty over time due to wear and tear. This type of material reduces the effect of polishing and reflectivity due to the non-uniform surface of the restoration.

Nanocomposites:

The new generation of composites are nanocomposites that contain particles as small as 20 nanometers. The nanocomposite particles are joined together to form nanoclusters (nanoclusters), which is a unique feature of nanocomposites. The accumulation of smaller particles and their transformation into larger particles increases the strength, abrasion resistance, polishing ability and strength of this type of composite. It can be said that this type of composite is the best type of dental composite.

What makes composite veneer look artificial?

1- Composite paint

The color of the composite should be chosen to match the color of the face and skin, as well as the sex and age of the patient.

2- Composite transparency

The higher the transparency, the more natural the display

3- Composite veneer form

There are many details in the shape of the teeth and its shape that the more attention is paid to these details, the more natural the appearance of the teeth.
